The team at Jonathan Tuckey Design are deeply saddened by the announcement of Maureen Doherty’s passing. Founder of fashion brand egg, Maureen was a character full of enthusiasm, positivity and spontaneity, her energetic presence will be missed greatly. We grew a strong bond with Maureen when working on her mews home in 2014 and it’s safe to say her approach to this project reflected her larger-than-life character. When filming a time-lapse of the interior construction, it was a comical surprise to see Maureen instigate an impromptu dance with Ryuta and her egg team, all dressed in white gowns.
‘There was a moment when we dressed all the staff up in pyjamas for the camera – with the Japanese architect too. I insisted he put his nightshirt on. And he turned from this very stoic, quiet man into this… strange fairy, flitting around, with the builders all around!’
– Maureen speaking with hole and corner magazine
Whilst this news has been difficult to process, it has allowed us to reflect on the kind and caring person Maureen was alongside the smiles and laughs that her infectious character prompted. Our thoughts are with Maureen’s family and friends at this time.
