Rudere is the planned adaptation of a former farmhouse and barn located on a steep hillside in northern Italy, with sweeping vistas across the valleys and vineyards beyond. Jonathan Tuckey Design is pleased to announce the commission of re-imagining this agricultural building for contemporary use.
The brief is to restore the current ruin and evolve its function into a wilderness retreat with wellness spaces, living areas and accommodation. Cork is proposed for insulation and facade as a sustainable, natural material and to respect the character of the rural context.
The site is blessed with natural light from sunrise to sunset and the proposal intends to frame views toward the distant alps. Contemporary additions are intended next to the barn, to add bedrooms and create courtyards; ideal for reflecting on the surrounding landscape. These will complement the existing buildings and act as a minimal backdrop in which visitors can retire to after a day of activity.
