Construction works are now underway in Luzern converting a 16th Century townhouse into a Vinothek. Now that the building has been stripped back, we have been reclaiming existing materials from each floor which will assist in retaining the buildings historical context.

On the first-floor a timber parquet flooring was found beneath the floor boards. The parquet will be restored and put back retaining part of the existing history of the building’s diverse materiality.

Between the ground and first floor, a newly installed stairwell will be lined with reclaimed terracotta tiles.

On the lower ground floor the newly excavated basement will be used wine tasting cellar. Alongside the stonework the surrounding walls have been retained with rammed earth form the excavated ground made by Hanno Burtscher
