JTD – Studio and Meeting Space

archivea

We transformed a derelict pub in West London – dating back to 1884 – into our new studio, accommodating the growth of the practice while doubling up as a gallery and lecture theatre. The new office serves as an example of our approach towards existing structures – bringing them back to life through intelligent architectural interventions. The former pub will therefore continue its function as an ‘urban living room’ but now through exhibitions, talks and community engagement.

The renovation of the Victorian pub is an example of the practice’s sensitive retention of an existing building and a sustainable method of retrofitting a historic structure for a new use and character. The intervention utilised offsite CNC timber joinery methods for its interlocking shelves and desks, taking advantage of the beautiful character of timber plywood boards for the inhabitation of found objects, samples, books, and models.
