Trevarefabrikken – Norway

Within a remote Norewgian archipelago is a hotel and cultural venue that stands confidently within its otherworldly landscape.

Formerly a cod liver oil factory, Trevarefabrikken has evolved into a more avant-garde landmark for contemporary Henningsvaer. We designed delicate insertions comprised of sustainably sourced materials to equip the new guest rooms, library, restaurant and bar. Concertina shuttering, vast sea facing windows and internal lanterns harness the breath-taking diversity of natural light that the arctic circle site has at its disposal.

We worked closely with local tradespeople to implement our design, articulating a rich tapestry of built fabric that captures the tempo of life within this tight knit community. The linear volume is now a beating heart in the locality, hosting a variety of events such as the Trevarefest music festival, exhibitions, yoga classes and creative workshops.
